ARTillery #1 REALIA_
How Do Individual Perceptions and Emotions Shape Our Shared Reality?
ARTillery #1 REALIA_ was the inaugural edition of the ARTillery exhibition series initiated by Collective Oslo. Bringing together 19 artists from across photography, digital art, and visual storytelling, the exhibition explored how personal experiences, emotions, and perceptions influence our understanding of reality and the collective human condition.
Through both documentary and staged works, the exhibition presented alternative perspectives on everyday life, inviting audiences to question what is real, what is constructed, and how individual viewpoints contribute to our shared understanding of the world.
The Realm of Understanding
Centered around the theme Realm of Understanding, REALIA_ examined the ways art can reveal hidden narratives and emotional truths. Each participating artist contributed a unique visual language, offering reflections on identity, intimacy, memory, beauty, vulnerability, and human connection.
The exhibition encouraged visitors to engage with reality through multiple lenses, demonstrating how art can challenge assumptions, evoke empathy, and expand our awareness of experiences beyond our own.
As photographer Florian Hetz described:
“Many people describe my photography as visceral. With my camera I dissect the human body. I focus on parts that many people don't pay much attention to, or want to hide, and highlight the curious beauty of those.”

A Collective Exploration
ARTillery was conceived as an evolving exhibition platform examining the force of art on our reflections of humanity. Through an organic curatorial process developed together with Creative Director Riccardo Ruini and the participating artists, the exhibition created a dynamic dialogue between different artistic practices and perspectives.
Rather than presenting a singular narrative, REALIA_ embraced complexity and contradiction, allowing multiple realities to coexist within the same space.
Exhibition Space
The exhibition took place in the FHILTEX building next to Skur 13 at Oslo Harbour in July 2021. The industrial setting provided a raw and expansive backdrop for the works, reinforcing the exhibition’s exploration of contemporary realities and human experiences.
Our Approach
With ARTillery #1 REALIA_, Collective Oslo launched an ongoing exhibition series investigating the Realms of Humanity through contemporary artistic practices.
The project serves as a platform connecting established and emerging artists while fostering collaboration across disciplines. Each edition explores a new thematic realm, examining the tensions between individuality and collectivity, perception and reality, personal experience and shared understanding.
