Birgitte Aga: Shaping Ethical Futures Through Art and Artificial Intelligence

Exploring the cultural, creative, and ethical possibilities of emerging technologies

Birgitte Aga is an activist, creative technologist, researcher, and innovation leader working at the intersection of art, technology, and social impact. With a PhD focused on the artistic and ethical applications of conversational AI, her work investigates how emerging technologies can be developed and used responsibly while creating meaningful cultural experiences. She currently serves as Head of Innovation and Research at MUNCH in Oslo.

Technology as a Tool for Positive Change

Aga's practice combines research, artistic experimentation, and community building. Through AI-driven artworks, collaborative projects, and public engagement, she explores how technology can contribute to more inclusive, transparent, and equitable futures.

Her work is grounded in the belief that innovation should not only focus on technological advancement, but also on ethics, accessibility, and human values. Young people and future generations remain a central source of motivation throughout her work.

Rethinking AI Through Art

A defining moment in Aga's professional journey came with the public release of large language models such as ChatGPT. Witnessing the rapid development of systems capable of understanding and generating human language reshaped her perspective on both the possibilities and responsibilities that accompany artificial intelligence.

Rather than viewing AI solely as a technological breakthrough, she sees it as a cultural force that raises important questions about authorship, representation, power, and ethics. This perspective informs projects such as Women Reclaiming AI, a feminist AI voice assistant developed through workshops and collaboration with a growing community of women.

Our Approach

Birgitte Aga’s work combines artistic practice, technological experimentation, and critical research. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, she investigates how AI can be used to create meaningful cultural experiences while promoting responsible innovation.

Her approach emphasizes transparency, inclusivity, and collective participation, ensuring that technological development reflects diverse perspectives and serves broader social needs. By bringing artists, researchers, technologists, and communities together, she explores how emerging technologies can be shaped through dialogue rather than simply adopted.

Artist Reflection

"I hope for a future where technology, especially AI, is ethical, fair, transparent, and inclusive."
