Coline Cherry: Exploring Identity Through Digital Worlds
CADEAU: a virtual journey of self-discovery, belonging, and queer identity
Coline Cherry is a German-born Lebanese-Norwegian artist working at the intersection of fashion, digital art, animation, and emerging technologies. Through a multidisciplinary practice that combines historical references with contemporary digital tools, she investigates identity, transformation, and the relationship between human beings and the worlds they create.
Bridging Past and Future
Cherry's work is rooted in both fashion history and technological innovation. Drawing inspiration from cultural archives, virtual environments, and evolving digital platforms, she explores how identity is shaped through personal experience, social structures, and technological development.
Her artistic practice often examines the ways in which human creations—from fashion to virtual worlds—ultimately influence the people who inhabit them.
CADEAU
CADEAU is an immersive exploration of selfhood through virtual identity and digital community. Inspired by the experiences of queer individuals in gaming environments and virtual platforms such as Second Life, the work investigates how digital spaces can become places of freedom, experimentation, and self-discovery.
For many users, these virtual environments offer opportunities to explore identities that may feel difficult or inaccessible in everyday life. Through digital embodiment and alternative realities, participants can experience forms of belonging, acceptance, and expression that challenge traditional social boundaries.
Our Approach
Developed through virtual reality and digital storytelling, CADEAU invites audiences into an immersive space where identity becomes fluid, exploratory, and deeply personal. The project combines visual world-building, digital aesthetics, and emotional narrative to create an experience centered on transformation and self-realization.
The title, CADEAU — the French word for “gift” — reflects the project's core theme: the gift of self-discovery. Through virtual environments, Cherry examines how technology can become a tool for understanding oneself and finding connection within supportive communities.
Artist Reflection
"Having access to the vast cultural library of both past and present inspires me. Through digital worlds, we can create new possibilities for understanding ourselves and others."
