Erik André Nes is a Norwegian photographer and visual artist based in Copenhagen. Working across art, fashion, and moving image, his practice explores identity, representation, and contemporary culture through a deeply human perspective.
Since first collaborating with Collective Oslo in 2017, Erik has participated in several exhibitions and projects, including the ARTillery exhibitions REALIA and EVOLUTION. His work is driven by a desire to challenge norms, celebrate diversity, and create visual narratives that reflect the complexity of modern life.
A Visual Language
Photography became Erik's medium for self-expression in his early twenties after discovering the work and life of influential photographers. Drawn to storytelling through imagery, he developed a practice that combines documentary sensitivity with artistic and editorial aesthetics.
His images often balance intimacy and boldness, capturing people and communities with honesty, warmth, and respect.
Representation as a Natural Practice
Rather than viewing inclusion as an obligation, Erik approaches representation as a natural extension of how he sees the world.
He is interested in portraying a broader spectrum of identities, cultures, and experiences, believing that beauty exists in all people and that contemporary visual culture should reflect society in all its diversity.
Through both personal and commissioned projects, he continues to create work that gives space to underrepresented voices and perspectives.
Expanding Creative Horizons
Alongside photography, Erik is increasingly interested in directing moving images and exploring new forms of storytelling. His work often moves between fashion, art, and social commentary, using visual narratives to investigate how people navigate identity, belonging, and self-expression in a rapidly changing world.
