The Who, Why, What Talk: Conversations on Creativity, Sustainability and Community
Bringing together artists and designers to explore the realities of contemporary creative practice
As part of Oslo Runway SS22, Collective Oslo, w.w.w.zine and Oslo Runway hosted The Who, Why, What Talk — a panel discussion moderated by Rita Larsen and Hilde Pettersen Reljin. The conversation brought together artists and designers from different creative disciplines to share reflections on artistic development, creative identity, sustainability, and the role of local communities in contemporary culture.
A Meeting of Different Creative Perspectives
The panel featured Norwegian artists Maja Pauline Bang and Richard Øiestad, alongside jewellery designers Anne Hasla of Hasla Jewellery and sisters Aissatou and Haddy Ceesay of Diawéne. Drawing from their exhibitions Mixed Seats and Fregattveien, the participants discussed their individual creative journeys and the experiences that have shaped their practices.
Creativity Beyond the Finished Work
The conversation explored the relationship between artistic expression and commercial realities, highlighting the balance many creatives navigate between personal vision and professional opportunities. Sustainability, local production, and community building emerged as recurring themes, reflecting a shared interest in creating meaningful work with long-term impact.
Our Approach
Collective Oslo curated and produced the event as a platform for dialogue, exchange, and reflection. Through an open conversation format, the talk created space for artists and designers to share experiences across disciplines while inviting the audience into the creative process behind their work.
The event highlighted Collective Oslo’s commitment to fostering cultural conversations and creating meeting points between artists, audiences, and industry professionals. By bringing together different voices and perspectives, The Who, Why, What Talk encouraged reflection on both the opportunities and challenges facing contemporary creative practice.
