Andreas Reutz: Exploring Identity, Ambiguity and Contemporary Culture

A multidisciplinary practice navigating gender, storytelling, and digital life

Painter, designer, and 3D artist Andreas Reutz creates work that exists between the conceptual and the figurative, the physical and the digital. Through painting, sculpture, digital media, and visual experimentation, he explores themes of gender, sexuality, identity, and human experience. His work is often rooted in wordplay, ambiguity, and personal reflection, creating space for multiple interpretations rather than fixed conclusions.

Between Reality and Imagination

Personal experiences play a significant role in Reutz’s work. Describing himself as a lifelong observer and chameleon, he often draws from lived experiences while allowing fiction, imagination, and symbolism to reshape reality.

A formative experience occurred when he became lost in a forest after dark. Confronting an intense fear of the unknown, he realized that much of what he feared existed only within his own imagination. The experience deepened his understanding of the relationship between creativity and fantasy, reinforcing his belief that creation begins with the ability to believe in something that does not yet exist.

This interplay between perception and reality continues to inform much of his artistic practice.
