Synchrodogs: Exploring the Future Through Art, Nature and Technology
Overture: a reflection on humanity, artificial intelligence and the world to come
Synchrodogs is the internationally acclaimed Ukrainian artist duo Roman Noven and Tania Shcheglova. Since 2008, they have developed a multidisciplinary practice that explores the relationship between humans, nature, technology, and the subconscious. Through photography, film, installation, and digital experimentation, their work examines environmental change, collective consciousness, and the evolving realities of contemporary life.
Art as Environmental Awareness
Growing up near the Carpathian Mountains in western Ukraine, Noven and Shcheglova witnessed firsthand how human activity transformed the landscapes around them. Forests disappeared, villages expanded, and natural environments changed rapidly over time. These experiences shaped their understanding of environmental responsibility and inspired a practice that uses art as a tool for awareness and reflection.
Their work often exists in the space between the natural and artificial, the real and surreal, inviting viewers to reconsider humanity’s relationship with the planet and the systems that shape our future.
Overture
Presented as part of their ongoing exploration of technological change, Overture reflects on the emergence of artificial intelligence and its growing influence on society. The work approaches AI not as a replacement for human creativity, but as a new chapter in artistic and scientific development.
The title refers to both a musical introduction and a beginning. For Synchrodogs, the present moment represents only the opening act of a much larger transformation. The rapid development of artificial intelligence offers new possibilities for addressing complex global challenges, from environmental issues to healthcare and scientific discovery.
Our Approach
Overture was created through a complex process involving multiple AI systems trained on Synchrodogs’ own archive of cinematic photography accumulated over fifteen years. Rather than combining unrelated visual sources, the project extends the duo’s existing artistic language through machine learning and generative technologies.
The result is a body of work that merges photography, technology, and imagination into a new visual expression. The project explores how human creativity and artificial intelligence can coexist, demonstrating the potential for collaboration between artist and machine rather than competition.
Artist Reflection
"Nature, the subconscious, and freedom continue to inspire us. We aspire to create something innovative and valuable that can contribute to positive change in the world."
